What are the good points of the Hi Bebe baby heart monitor?
The biggest benefit of buying a clinical quality fetal Doppler is that they display the fetal heart rate (FHR). The womb is a noisy place and the transducer will pick up many sounds other than your baby's heartbeat, such as the sound of blood rushing through the placenta and particularly the mother's heartbeat. Therefore it can sometimes be a little difficult to determine if the sound you can hear is your baby's heartbeat or your own if you do not know what you are listening for. A digital FHR gives you reassurance that it is definitely your baby that you can hear. A fetal heartbeat normally falls between a range of 120 to 160, whereas the mothers heartbeat will usually range between around 60 and 90.
Clarity of sound is another advantage. High sound quality makes it easier to distinguish the galloping sound of your baby's heart from the other noises the heartbeat monitor will pick up. This can reduce the amount of time it takes to locate your baby's heartbeat, although bear in mind that if the baby is an awkward position it can take even a professional a while to get the transducer in the right position to pick anything up.
Are there any negatives?
The real downside to this product is that it is quite expensive. If you have experienced a problematic pregnancy then this may not matter, as you cannot put a price on peace of mind. It can give reassurance between antenatal appointments, as well as helping bond with the baby.
